The Daniel Fast is based on the stories in The Book of Daniel, Bible. Prophet Daniel reduced his diet for long periods in two examples, abstaining from gluttonous foods such as meat, bread, and wine, and consuming only water and simple plant-based foods (probably carrots, lentils, and beans). According to the stories, these fasting times did not only leave Daniel surprisingly stable but also packed with greater insight and knowledge about nature.
